Writer/director Billy Wilder (1906-2002) made social satire and scalding comedy look easy. This Polish-born and German-raised master behind The Apartment, Some Like It Hot, and Sabrina, captured the outrageous quirkiness of the USA better than anyone. Yet Wilder was just as comfortable with hard-hitting dramas: Double Indemnity, The Lost Weekend, Ace in the HoleStalag 17, and Witness for the Prosecution -- not to mention Wilder’s timeless masterpiece indicting Hollywood cruelty, Sunset Blvd. Join film historian Max Alvarez for the laughter and drama behind the great Wilder and his unforgettable movies.
