Join Reno Bracchi, longtime blues musician and aficionado, for a two-part presentation “Origins of the Blues: A Uniquely American Music”. Blues is a genre that originated amongst African-Americans in the Deep South of the U.S. in the mid-1800s. Various elements of African-American culture, including spirituals, work songs, field hollers and more were incorporated to create a new musical form. In Part One of this two-part series, we’ll learn how the above elements “blended” together to birth this soulful, healing music. We’ll also learn about the blues subgenres that developed along the way. Live musical performances, archival photos, and authentic blues recordings are all part of the show! (Part Two will be held on Friday, February 7 at 12:00 pm).
This program is part of the Library's celebration of Black History Month throughout the month of February.
