As part of the Library's celebration of Black History Month, join opera expert Tanisha Mitchell for an audio/visual presentation about the legendary career of Marian Anderson. Best known as a cultural icon whose contralto voice broke through racial barriers in the operatic world and ultimately in American society. Her beautiful illustrious voice is most memorable through her controversial recital on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in 1939 and her Metropolitan Opera debut in 1955. Named a "Mover and Shaker" by Library Journal, Tanisha Mitchell is best known for her innovative work in the arts at the Metropolitan Opera and the Freeport Memorial Library. This special program will feature an aria performed by Ms. Mitchell.
