Event Details

As part of the Library's celebration of Earth Day, join Jane Shapiro on a journey across the globe to the Galapagos Islands.  Have you ever seen a blue-footed booby bird? What does a magnificent frigate bird look like when he’s hunting for a mate? Do you know what a 100 year old giant tortoise eats? Let’s follow in the footsteps of Charles Darwin and visit the Galápagos Islands to find out the answers to these questions and a whole lot more. Jane Shapiro will take you on a virtual trip to Quito and Guayaquil, Ecuador, and then on to the Galápagos where some of the world’s most unique creatures live in an unspoiled habitat.

Ms. Shapiro Jane Shapiro has been leading book discussions and giving talks about a variety of topics on Long Island and in Manhattan since 1992. She holds graduate degrees in both English and Spanish literature. She has also been a writer and Special Sections editor for the Herald community newspaper chain as well as a teacher of English and Spanish.
