Join Ron Brown as he continues his travel series with Five Wonderful Things to do in Jerusalem. No city has changed rulers more than Jerusalem, The City of Gold. To discover the unique character of this city the best place is the recent archaeological excavations just below the Temple Mount. The remains of the ancient Jebusite founders of the city have been revealed. Then there is the cave that extends from the Western Wall and display remains of the Jewish Temple. The medieval quarter of Mea Shareem have housed devout Orthodox Jews from Morocco to India and Russia to Ethiopia. The Gan Ha-Atzamout, the most important Muslim cemetery in Jerusalem reveals the thousand-year golden age of Muslim Jerusalem. The Greek Quarter testifies to the dominant role Greek Orthodox Christians played in the city for centuries. Finally, it is from the terrace of the former International Hotel on the top of the Mount of Olives that Jerusalem truly turns gold at sunset. (Sponsored by the Friends of the Library)
