Program Description

Event Details

Renowned for his powerful paintings of American life and scenery, Winslow Homer remains a beloved and consequential figure whose art continues to appeal to broad audiences. The Met exhibition Winslow Homer – Crosscurrents reconsiders Homer’s work through the lens of conflict, a theme that crosses his prolific career. Join museum educator, Alice W. Schwarz, in an exploration of Homer’s paintings from the civil war and reconstruction to the Caribbean islands and the coast of Maine. Crosscurrents represents the largest critical overview of Homer’s art and life in more than a quarter of a century.  (Sponsored by the Friends of the Library)

IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to unforeseen circumstances, Alice Schwarz will be giving her presentation virtually, but we will be projecting her live presentation on the screen for those joining us in-person.  The program will also be available virtually over Zoom.
