Like Washington D.C., Moscow emerged into history as a late comer. Babylon, Athens, Rome, Jerusalem, Paris, and London were already ancient when Washington and Moscow were born. Both cities struggled to become Empire Cities and both succeeded. Join today's presenter, Dr. Ronald Brown, who will explore the miraculous rise of Moscow from rustic village to the capital of a vast empire. Why does Moscow claim to be the Third Rome? Why is Moscow a rival to the USA today? These are just a few of the questions this lecture will explore. Dr. Brown first visited the city in March 1980 and spent a year there from June 1992 to March 1993 during the fall of the USSR. (Sponsored by the Friends of the Library)
