Program Description

Event Details

Join the Port Washington Public Library's resident musicologist Tony Traguardo for a look at an historic event that took place in New York in the Summer of 1969. While millions of people can quote details about the Woodstock Music and Arts Festival, few people, apart from the many thousands who were there, remember the Harlem Cultural Festival. The concert series was filled with stars from blues, jazz, R&B, and soul, and it drew over 300,000 attendees. Recently found footage from the festival of such legendary artists as Stevie Wonder, Sly and the Family Stone and the 5th Dimension serves as the basis for an important and revealing documentary produced and directed by Questlove.
