'For the Record' - Come and Share Your Thoughts About Bob Dylan's Self Portrait (1970)

Join George Walsh, host of WCWP Radio’s ‘Knockin’ on Dylan’s Door’ (Mondays 7-9pm) for a look at Dylan’s tenth studio album, Self Portrait. Released on June 8, 1970, Dylan’s second double album features many cover versions of well-known pop and folk songs. Also included are a handful of instrumentals and original compositions. Most of the album is sung in Dylan’s ‘new’ country crooning voice, introduced a year earlier on Nashville Skyline. Seen by some as intentionally surreal and even satirical at times, Self Portrait received extremely poor reviews. Dylan has stated in interviews that Self Portrait was something of a joke, far below the standards he set in the 1960s, and was made to end the "spokesman of a generation" label that critics had put on him.But how does the album stand up over 53 years later? And has the 2013 release of Dylan’s Bootleg Series Vol. 10: Another Self Portrait altered how fans of Dylan’s work view this fascinating period in his musical career and personal life?

Registration for this program begins on October 2nd, and registrants who do not own or have access to the album may request a free copy of the CD or LP, available on a "first come first served" basis, at the information desk.
