Lauren Kinhan: Songwriter and Vocalist with the Grammy Winning ‘New York Voices’ Performs Live
Veteran singer/songwriter and jazz vocalist Lauren Kinhan is thrilled to be bringing her trio to the Port Washington Library stage for the first time. As a member of the Internationally Acclaimed New York Voices for over 30 years, she shares a Grammy Award with The Count Basie Orchestra and a Latin Grammy with Paquito D’Rivera. Ms. Kinhan's four solo projects are chock full of her original music that pays homage to the singer/songwriters she grew up listening to, and merges it all with her vast experience in the jazz world.
“Nothing makes music more thrush with inspiration than an airplane ride to countries near and far to collaborate with artists of all genres,” says Lauren. Words and music are her favorite playmates, and you’ll hear songs both poetic and bluesy. And a recently released tribute to jazz singer Nancy Wilson 'checks another box off', with an album full of all jazz standards. At this evening's program you can expect a combination of it all!
You’ll hear songs from her debut album, 'Hardly Blinking,' a work that emerged when legendary record producer Phil Ramone signed Lauren on the spot during a concert at Greenwich Village’s iconic The Bitter End in 1998. He called her "a true songwriter like Phoebe Snow." Along with cuts from her other critically acclaimed solo projects, her set will be all about the stories her songs tell, including the freshly-penned tunes that she's preparing for a new record. Lauren's experience as an entertainer combined with her expressive instrument allows her to easily connect with a room full of music lovers and to invite you into her world. Having resided on Long Island for over 27 years, she considers herself a 'hometown girl'. And her steadfast devotion to music education quite possibly makes it plausible that she has even worked with a few of your kids, grand-kids or students over the years; Lauren is on the adjunct faculty at NYU and Queens College.
Joining her on the bandstand are: Addison Frei, Piano, Matt Penman, Bass, Christopher LaTona, Drums. To learn more about her, visit her website, Laurenkinhan.com.
