KEN MCGORRY AND THE ACHIEVEMENTS: A 50TH ANNIVERSARY MUSICAL CELEBRATION AT THE SOUSA BANDSHELL
Renowned mystery novelist and recovering magazine editor Ken McGorry will bring his longtime band of musical overachievers, The Achievements, to the Sousa bandshell stage on Sunday, August 21st at 3:30pm for a rocking set of live music as part of the library’s SoundSwap series.
Ken McGorry and the Achievements are a mostly Port Washington-bred all-original concert band that specializes in country-flavored blues-rock. This event’s all-star lineup features Richard and Greg Meade from the Meade Brothers Band and Paul Brokaw, who has doubled as the band’s keyboardist and studio producer since the mid-80s. Gabis Brothers Band. Achievements stalwarts Don Gabis and Bill Intemann comprise the rhythm section, and guitar virtuoso Douglas Baldwin rounds off this highly seasoned group of musicians.
During their long history, Ken McGorry and the Achievements have been broadcast live from Stonybrook University, and performed frequently at New York’s Lone Star Cafe and Roslyn’s legendary My Father's Place. They have also opened for legendary artists like Lightnin' Hopkins and Steppenwolf and Kinky Friedman.
