Join us for “Too Marvelous for Words: A 1930’s Songbook,” a cabaret program created by multiple award-winning recording artist Jeff Harnar. The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library and will honor the memory of longtime FOL Board member Bob Drew, who passed away last year. All are invited.

The cabaret program will feature songs by Rodgers & Hart, Cole Porter, Richard Whiting and Johnny Mercer. The New York Times called Jeff Harnar “the most important male cabaret performer to emerge since Michael Feinstein.”

Bob Drew was a Port Washington resident for nearly 50 years. He was an actor whose career included work in radio, in off- and on-Broadway productions, in film, in television including soap operas and game shows, and in national commercials. He was a proud member of three unions: Actor’s Equity, the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.

For some 25 years, Bob was a devoted member of the FOL board of directors. He loved books and organized the FOL’s booth at Harbor Fest for many years, and he oversaw the sound system at the FOL’s annual Book & Author Luncheon. Bob’s talents also embraced finance. When the FOL received a major bequest some 20 years ago, it was Bob who monitored the status of the bequest and successfully guided the FOL in its financial decision-making. Bob volunteered as an English language tutor in the library’s ESOL program, which is sponsored by the FOL. He was a very popular teacher with a following of devoted students and of other ESOL teachers.
