Port Washington’s own Craig Thomas, the co-creator of the Emmy-winning comedy series How I Met Your Mother, has published his first novel That’s Not How It Happened. This smart, funny, bighearted novel follows a family turned upside down after Hollywood decides to make a movie version of their lives.  “Craig Thomas’s heart-tugging novel about parenting wonders, family dynamics, and navigating Hollywood is a terrific reminder that truth is always stranger than fiction and the book is ALWAYS better than the movie.  I loved it!” – R.J. Palacio, bestselling author of Wonder. The Library is honored to host him in conversation with local official Wayne Wink.

In addition to his new novel, Craig Thomas’ work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Boston Globe, McSweeney's, and The Iowa Review. He is an Emmy-nominated songwriter who has written songs for Sesame Street, and is a founding member, drummer, and songwriter for The Solids. He recently launched a HIMYM rewatch podcast, How We Made Your Mother. He lives in New York City with his wife, Rebecca, his daughter, Celia, and his son, Elliot, whose unique journey has had a huge impact on his life and work.

Books will be available for purchase and signing.
