Budd Boetticher Western Film Festival: In the late 1950s, Oscar “Budd” Boetticher, Jr. directed a string of spare, adult westerns for Columbia, all starring Randolph Scott as a rugged but courtly loner. This month we present five of these classics, beginning tonight with "The Tall T" (1957-78 min.). When Pat Brennan (Scott) and a pair of newlyweds (Maureen O’Hara, Willard Mims) are held hostage by bandit Frank Usher (Richard Boone) and his gang, Brennan must use his wiles to keep the captives alive while turning the gunmen against each other. Screenwriter Burt Kennedy adapted an Elmore Leonard story.
