Throughout the centuries, he woos a Russian princess (Charlotte Valandrey), goes to war, transforms into a woman, and romances a swashbuckling hero (Billy Zane). Director Sally Potter also scripted this gender-bending, centuries-spanning fantasy, from Virginia Woolf's book.
