“THE GROCER’S SON” ("Le Fils de l’Espicier") (2007-96 min.). After his father suffers a heart attack, 30-year-old Parisian slacker Antoine (Nicolas Cazale) agrees to temporarily take on the old man’s job: driving a van full of groceries to farmers throughout the countryside of Provence. Initially sullen and unfriendly to his customers, Antoine learns the value of service to the community through the presence of Claire (Clotilde Hesme), a student friend who rides along with him. Also, a busy single mother’s life is turned upside down in writer/director Eric Escobar’s short, "One Weekend a Month" (2004-12 min.). This screening comes to us from Film Movement, an organization that makes outstanding independent films, foreign films and documentaries available to educational institutions.
