Film: "Ben X"

“BEN X” (2007-93 min.). Affected by a mild form of autism, Ben (Greg Timmermans) is ignored by his teachers and tormented by his classmates, but he is a courageous hero in the computer gaming world that consumes him. As the bullies’ relentless attacks push him over the edge, his online dream girl Scarlite (Laura Verlinden) steps in to help him. Director Nic Balthazar also scripted, from his novel. Also, a teenager (Carlie Nettles) deals with her mother’s (Sally Smythe) deteriorating mental state in Ben Shelton’s short My Name Is Lisa (2007-6 min.). This screening comes to us from Film Movement, an organization that makes outstanding independent films, foreign films and documentaries available to educational institutions.
