Join Professor Thomas Germano for a lavish exploration of the art of John Singer Sargent (1864-1925,) the greatest portraitist of the gilded age, and his relationship to fashion featuring portraits and costumes from the Gilded Age. The exhibition, Fashioned by Sargent explores the relationship of painting and dress through Sargent’s works alongside exquisite costumes of the period―including garments actually worn by his sitters. Sargent was best known for his dramatic and stylish portraits, but he was equally accomplished as a landscapist, muralist and watercolor painter. Professor Thomas Germano will present a visual lecture looking at the recent Sargent exhibition held in the MFA, Boston (2023,) and currently at the Tate Gallery, London (2024.)
