Virtual Visits - The Hudson River School
with Barbara Applegate
The Hudson River School is often cited as the first truly American art movement. Although the tradition of the landscape exists in Europe long before the colonies are established, American painters bring something new to the practice. This talk will explore the Hudson River School through paintings by Thomas Cole, Asher Durand, Albert Bierstadt, Martin Johnson Heade, Fitz Hugh Lane and others.
Barbara Applegate is the Director at Steinberg Museum of Art, located at LIU Post. In addition to her work at the Museum, Barbara regularly teaches at Art History at Farmingdale State University of New York.
