Professor Ron Brown continues his travel series with a fascinating look at the city of Dubai. The ruling Al Maktoum family witnessed the departure of the first oil tanker from the first oil well in Dubai in 1969. From that date the history of Dubai soared into the stratosphere. Skyscrapers, mega-malls, hotels, universities, airlines, global banks, booming investment firms, and of course in 2010 the 209-floor Burj Khalifa Tower, the tallest building in the world made the city world famous. Dubai claims to be the largest shopping mall in the world, hence its name Do Buy everything in sight. (Sponsored by the Friends of the Library)
