Queer and Gender Theory. Sounds academic. Boring. Distant. But the truth is that Queer and Gender Theory are intrinsic parts of our everyday lives. They exist all around us, and within us. They exist in our politics, news, marketing campaigns, health care, the stories we tell on stage and on screen, our clothing choices (and the clothing choices we make for our children), and even in the most intimate corners of our sex lives. The truth is also that you know more than you think you do about Queer and Gender Theory. You just may not know that you already know it. This interactive program will explore the basics of Queer and Gender Theory (like the words floating around current public discourse: heteronormativity, transgender, cisgender, polyamarous, etc.) as well as question ideas and "norms". Roger Rosen, who is a Queer Theorist, writer, educator and artist will lead the discussion. Bring your questions and your curiosity. You'll never look at a Rock Hudson/Doris Day movie the same way again.
