Join award-winning teacher and art historian Dennis Raverty as he explores the work of Howard Pyle, who is sometimes called the "father" of American illustration. His fantastic illustrations to Robin Hood, pirate tales and swashbuckler adventure stories have thrilled and delighted readers for over one hundred years and are still enormously popular today. Pyle inaugurated what is referred to as the "Golden Age" of American illustration. His career spanned the transition in printing technologies from photo engraving to screened prints to full color high quality reproduction at a fraction of the cost of older lithographic colored prints.
