Have you ever wondered how US Army combat photographers operated in Vietnam? Fred Blumlein, academic, Trustee Emeritus of the Cow Neck Peninsula Historical Society and a former US Army officer who commanded a photo unit in Vietnam, discusses the complexity of taking and processing photographs under the extreme conditions of war. In this visual presentation, Mr. Blumlein explores his journey from the U.S. to Vietnam, including the support role his unit played for multiple combat units, the men under his command and their various photo assignments, as well as the history of combat photography equipment from the 1850’s to 1966, including the Nikonos camera – the “workhorse of war.”
This program was offered as part of the Port Washington Public Library’s recognition of Veteran’s Day.
Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
