Ours is a world of information. The internet, 24-hour news, social media and, lately, the rise of Artificial Intelligence all contribute to a society increasingly dependent upon, and influenced by, information. The increasing power of these sources of information is a growing concern as false narratives and disinformation are easier and easier to proliferate. The ability to sway opinions, discredit actual facts and create false information that is indistinguishable from reality is affecting the structure of our society and how we live our lives. In this unique panel discussion, Michael Landau and Michael Salvarezza, experts in technology, Randi Marshall, a Newsday journalist and Julia Brickell, a legal scholar, will discuss the nature and source of disinformation, including an examination of emerging Artificial Intelligence applications like Chat GPT. Learn about specific steps that you can take to help identify misinformation and how we have an obligation to consume, share and act upon information responsibly. (Recorded on March 21, 2024)
