SoundSwap: New York-Based Band 'Mind Open' Performs Live

Mind Open is a psychedelic jazz jam band based in NYC that features vibraphone as its main melodic instrument.

While jazz is one term to describe the group, Mind Open actually plays music that uniquely blends a number of genres, featuring catchy songwriting reminiscent of Burt Bacharach, liquid vibes a la Milt Jackson, funky psychedelic jams that recall Medeski Martin and Wood, and even some of the surf rock twang of the Ventures. Their original compositions have been described as “musical ambrosia” or “very pleasing” by the great pianist Craig Huxley. Mind Open’s last album “Thank You For Not Listening” was recorded in 2018, and it features esteemed percussionist Billy Martin from the famed Medeski Martin and Wood. The band's most recent album, Road Trip was released this June and is available on all streaming platforms.
