Event Details

It all began in the mid-1870s when a group of parishioners at the prestigious St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Fifth Avenue decided to take the jungle of Easter flowers that decorated the church to the nearby hospital. Down the avenue they marched carrying Easter lilies and tulips, dressed in their Easter finest. At first the Catholics at St. Patrick and the Presbyterians at Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church just stood by in awe. But soon they too gathered up flowers and joined the very first Fifth Avenue Easter Parade. Today the hospital is long gone but flowers, elaborate bonnets, whimsical costumes, and formally dressed house pets still stroll the avenue in one of New York City’s most beloved traditions, The Easter Parade. (Sponsored by the Friends of the Library)

Please note that this will be a hybrid event. Participants are invited to join us in person or via Zoom. Priority will be given to Port Washington residents for in person attendance.
