Saving Washington. Lady Dolley Madison (1768-1849) is often remembered as a hostess who saved the White House portrait of George Washington during the War of 1812. Saving Washington is the inaugural exhibition of the New-York Historical Society’s Center for Women’s History. Join docent Jim Picinich for an illustrated lecture exploring the exhibition, which runs through July 30.
