Sandwiched In: Steve Allen and The Birth of The Tonight Show

To celebrate the 65th Anniversary of The Tonight Show, television producer/writer Bob Waldman returns with the September 27, 1954 premiere starring the show’s original host, Steve Allen.

As David Letterman once told Steve, “You started the whole thing. You’re the reason talk shows are what they are today.” Entertainment Weekly wrote, “If you have ever turned on the TV after the 11 o’clock news and laughed, you owe Steve Allen a debt of gratitude.” Waldman, who wrote for Steve in the mid-'80s will also share his memories of one of television’s greatest innovators.
