The name Valentino sent shivers down the spines of American women of the 1920's. Rebellious young women flocked to movie houses and were seduced by the magnetism of the screen's first "Latin Lover." Valentino lived the rags to riches dream of the immigrant. At a time when Italian Americans were subject to prejudice, Valentino changed the negative stereotyping of Italians in the movies forever redefining our notions of love and romance. While women adored him, many men despised him as a stealer of hearts.
