The rugged director, who passed away on this day in 1975 at the age of 75, made 81 films between 1923 and 1958. These include "This Man’s Navy" (1945-100 min.), in which widow Maude Weaver (Selena Royle) and her son Jess (Tom Drake) become a surrogate family for Navy blimp pilot Ned Trumpet (Wallace Beery).
