Event Details

The Rolling Stones' album Beggars Banquet, released in December of 1968, marked a return to the band's more classic sound, following their previous release, a psychedelic 'misstep' called Their Satanic Majesties Request. While the album did not yield any smash hit singles, its songs are considered some of the Stones' finest, and many have been included in the band's live sets for decades. The album has been certified platinum in the US, has appeared on many respected lists of the greatest albums of all time, and has also been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

In this month's multimedia 'For the Record' program, Tony Traguardo will discuss the history of Beggars Banquet, and will also present footage of the Stones performing some of the album's songs. Included will be segments from the television extravaganza titled The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus. The project, recorded in December of 1968 and originally designed to promote Beggars Banquet, was shelved by the band until 1996, when their former manager, Allen Klein, gave it an official release.
