Event Details

The Opus Zoo Woodwind Quintet is a professional ensemble of musicians from Copenhagen, Denmark, making a limited engagement tour of Long Island, performing at the Port Washington Library and at the Aaron Copland School of Music.  Opus Zoo was formed in 2013 and consists of flutist Kristina Ersson, oboist Birgitte Lindum, clarinetist Søren-Filip Brix Hansen, bassoonist Lars Mathiesen and hornist Thorbjørn Gram.

Named for the famous quintet by Luciano Berio, the ensemble brings the individual virtuosity of each player (who are members and soloists in several of the top orchestras and ensembles in Denmark) and molds that into a brilliantly blended ensemble sound. They regularly perform standard repertory (including one of the most famous quintets by Danish composer Carl Nielsen) and are dedicated to expanding the repertoire for this ensemble by the commissioning of new works, including a new Quintet, "What No One Else Sees . . ," by American composer Edward Smaldone.  This new work will receive its American Premiere performance at the Port Washington Library concert, Oct. 15, 2023 at 3:00 PM.
