Program Description

Event Details

Join author and former Newsday columnist Mark Chiusano as he discusses his new book The Fabulist: The Lying, Hustling, Grifting, Stealing, and Very American Legend of George Santos. Combining the very best of boots-on-the-ground journalism, dishy backroom dealings, and glittery details about Gold Coast mansions and bodice-baring drag shows that’d feel just as at home in your next summer beach read, The Fabulist is truly stranger than fiction.  This program will be of particular interest to residents of Port Washington and others from the 3rd Congressional District who will have an opportunity to hear the author describe what it has been like to cover George Santos since 2019 as a Newsday columnist. In addition to discussing his new book, Mr. Chiusano will also discuss what it is like to be a writer and journalist in 2024.

Mr. Chiusano’s story collection Marine Park received a PEN/Hemingway Award honorable mention in 2015. He covered two presidential elections and many local ones as a columnist and editorial writer for Newsday, and his writing has appeared in places like The New York Times, New York Magazine, Politico, The Paris Review, and McSweeney’s. He teaches at CUNY City Tech.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Books will be available for purchase and signing.  Registration is required and priority will go to Port Washington cardholders.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a 'hybrid' event that can be attended either "In-Person" or "Online" on the Zoom platform. You can choose which option you wish to register for below in the "Do you want to attend in-person or online?" dropdown menu below.
