Join author Foster Hirsch as he discusses his new book Hollywood and the Movies of the Fifties: The Collapse of the Studio System, the Thrill of Cinerama, and the Invasion of the Ultimate Body Snatcher - Television. Mr. Hirsch takes a fascinating look at Hollywood’s most turbulent decade and the demise of the studio system—set against the boom of the post–World War II years, the Cold War, and the atomic age—and the movies that reflected the seismic shifts. Critics describe the book as “A rich, expansive, and penetrating work of film and social history.”
A professor of film at Brooklyn College, Foster Hirsch is the author of sixteen books on film and theater, including Otto Preminger: The Man Who Would Be King, The Dark Side of the Screen: Film Noir, and A Method to Their Madness: The History of the Actors Studio.
Books will be available for purchase and signing at the event. If you wish to order a signed copy of the book ahead of time, CLICK HERE.
Co-sponsored by the Gold Coast Arts Center.
Please Note: There will be a special film screening of the 1951 suspense film A Cause for Alarm! on February 6th at 7:00 pm, an excellent primer for the author event.
