On Saturday, July 16th at 3:30pm the Long Island-based band Medicine Fish returns to Port Washington for their first appearance on the Sousa bandshell stage as part of our SoundSwap Summer music series.
Medicine Fish came together in October of 2011 as the musical brainchild of John Velsor, Julian 'Laserz' Maultsby, Ryan Griffin, and Jimmy 'The Hat' Messina. The members’ combined versatility, coupled with their wide-reaching and varied musical tastes, results in a unique and uncommon mixture of stylistic elements. Spend a few minutes with Medicine Fish and you may find them evoking the trippy nature of The Grateful Dead, the groove of Bob Marley, the wild lyricism of Pink Floyd, the quirky jams of Phish, and the fine, harmony-driven, folk of groups like The Lovin’ Spoonful or Fleet Foxes. And they can even make you dance!
Since its inception, the group has played venues ranging from the smallest cafes to the largest and loudest ballrooms, while seeming natural and right-at-home wherever they appear. Their energetic and raw approach leads to the creation of a true original and honest musical act. Medicine Fish’s motto is that “music is human, and so are we!” You can clearly hear that energy in the three songs on their 2018 album ‘Live Force’ that were recorded at the group’s 2017 appearance at the library. This event will feature material from Medicine Fish’s most recent studio album ‘Habitat’, promising a show that you won’t want to miss. So come and join us for this SoundSwap event to share in a very ‘human’ experience with Medicine Fish.
