Edward Chodorov’s stage play "Kind Lady," adapted from a Hugh Walpole story, tells of a wealthy older woman preyed upon by criminals. The first film version (1935-77 min.), directed by George B. Seitz, stars Aline MacMahon as Mary Harries and Basil Rathbone as swindler Henry Elcott. Mary Carlisle and Frank Albertson co-star. After a brief intermission, check out the remake (1951-78 min.), which stars Ethel Barrymore as Mary and Maurice Evans as Elcott. Angela Lansbury and Keenan Wynn co-star.
