"Driving The Green Book" with Author Alvin Hall and Filmmaker Saro Varjabedian

Join us for a special film screening and discussion of the documentary film, Driving the Green Book (2023, 40 min.), based on the podcast and subsequent book by award-winning broadcaster and author Alvin Hall.  From 1936 to 1967, millions of Black travelers relied on The Negro Motorist Green Book, the definitive guide to businesses where they could safely rest, eat, or sleep.  Driving the Green Book has been described as a vital work of national history as well as a hopeful chronicle of Black resilience and resistance. 

The documentary film explores the recent journey that Alvin Hall and some of his students took on a road trip across Long Island, NY looking for locations once listed in the Green Book.  Alvin Hall will be joined by filmmaker Saro Varjabedian to discuss the making of the film as well as take audience questions.
