King Leontes of Sicilia (Antony Sher), mistakenly believing that his wife Hermione (Alexandra Gilbrreath) has been unfaithful with his old friend Polixenes (Ken Bones), banishes her to prison. Their infant daughter, left for dead, is saved by Paulina (Estelle Kohler) and raised by a shepard in Bohemia. Now a young woman, Perdita (Emily Bruni) falls in love with handsome Prince Florizel (Ryan McCluskey), who happens to be Polixenes’s son. Gretory Doran directed this British television production of Shakespeare’s late, great play, which we screen tonight in honor of the Bard’s birthday (April 23, 1564).
