Join us for a special film screening and discussion of the award-winning documentary Made by Immigrants (2022), with writer and director Carlo Gennarelli.  (Please Note the Early Start Time - 6:30 p.m.)

As the American son of Italian immigrants, Mr. Gennarelli has crafted an autobiographical film tracing his Italian American heritage through a multi-faceted narrative.  Upon screening Made by Immigrants, Italian film historian Ciro Borrelli noted, “Carlo Gennarelli’s documentary is wonderful.  The film is an excellent mix between his family history and the migratory flows during the first half of the 20th century.  It depicts an intense love story, set in Italy, which is just emerging from the rubble of the Second World War and spanning its reach beyond the vast Atlantic Ocean.”  The film’s audiences, both in Italy and America, have been moved by one man’s search for self-discovery, and have identified with its global themes of ancestry and immigration.  Carlo Gennarelli has earned 14 Emmy Awards during his 40-year career in television and film and is also an Associate Professor at Hofstra University teaching classes in television production and studies.

This event is made possible through the OSDIA John Michael Marino Lodge #1389 and the John Michael Marino Foundation, both located here in Port Washington.  The JMM Foundation supports many local charities and educational programs, provides scholarships for local students and works to support educational and cultural programs that will foster an awareness of Italian-American heritage.  Join us to celebrate the rich history of Italian-America culture.  Refreshments will be served.
