Film: "Precious"

(2009-109 min.). Clareece Precious Jones (Oscar nominee Gabourey Sidibe), an obese, pregnant, inner-city high schooler, has an opportunity to overcome years of abuse at the hands of her mother (Oscar winner Mo’Nique) with the help of an understanding teacher (Paula Patton) and a no-nonsense social worker (Mariah Carey). Screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher earned an Oscar for his adaptation of the novel by Sapphire. Director Lee Daniels was also Oscar-nominated.
