Event Details
(2009-81 min.). In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, thousands of pets needed to be transported around the country and adopted, even when their displaced guardians still desperately wanted them. Meanwhile, many adoptive guardians forged strong bonds with their new pets, nurturing them back to health from the traumas they suffered during and after the storm. When two families love the same pet, conflicts arise over who is the rightful owner and what is right for the animal. At the center of this tension are pets who are loved like family, but by law are considered property. Geralyn Pezanoski directed this moving documentary. Also, a scientist transforms himself into a dog in John Harden’s short film, "La Vie d’un Chien" ("The Life of a Dog") (2005-13 min.). This screening comes to us from Film Movement, an organization which makes outstanding independent films, foreign films and documentaries available to educational institutions.
