Event Details
Since it’s origins in Paris in the 1920s, Surrealism has had an international scope, but knowledge of the movement has been formed primarily through a Western European concentration. Surrealism: Beyond Borders reconsiders a broader scope of Surrealism, wider in geography and chronology by looking at artworks from Eastern Europe, The Caribbean, Asia, North Africa, Australia and Latin America through seventy-five years of work produced across 45 countries.
Surrealism Beyond Borders, an exhibition curated by the Metropolitan Museum of Art and on view through January 30, 2022, offers a fresh appraisal of global responses and artistic exchanges examining historical, national, and local distinctions. This visual lecture will be conducted by Professor Thomas Germano.
