Program Description

Event Details

Dozens of outstanding American artists have been drawn to Maine to work from the rugged beauty and peaceful environs.  Robert Henri searched for the Maine coastline that inspired one of America’s great landscape and seascape painters, Winslow Homer. Henri encouraged his students to visit the coastline of Maine for inspiration. George Bellows, Edward Hopper and Rockwell Kent all answered the call and produced outstanding individual works in the footsteps of Homer.

Three generations of Wyeths were also inspired to work in Maine where Andrew Wyeth staged his iconic “Christina’s World.”  Richard Estes, Neil Welliver, Alex Katz, Fairfield Porter, Yvonne Jacquette, Lois Dodd, and many other artists were drawn to the natural beauty of the coast and quietude of Maine. Thomas Germano will present a visual art lecture featuring the artists inspired by Maine.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a 'hybrid' event that can be attended either "In-Person" or "Online" on the Zoom platform. You can choose which option you wish to register for below in the "Do you want to attend in-person or online?" dropdown menu below.
